CHITTOOR, JAN. 11. The Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, including the former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and the party's national president, L.K. Advani, are all followers of the party ideology and not of any individual, said Venkaiah Naidu, former president of the party, while addressing the district party workers meeting here on Tuesday. He lambasted the Congress Government at State and Central levels for not solving people's problems. The prices of steel, cement, diesel, cooking oil, sugar and other essential commodities had sky-rocketed and the Governments were not taking any steps to control the rising prices. Mr. Venkaiah Naidu criticised the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, for not fulfilling the promises he had made before the Assembly elections and said that laying of foundation stones for irrigation projects was only to get commissions. The Government was not revealing the sources of funds with which it was taking up these projects.
Schemes flayed
He ridiculed the Rajiv Palle Bata and Rajiv Nagara Bata programmes and said that they were taken up only to gain political mileage. The Rajiv Nagar Bata was launched by the Chief Minister with an eye on the ensuing municipal elections. He listed out several development activities implemented by the earlier BJP Government at Centre. The party workers should not get disheartened over the defeat of the party in the last elections. They should move among people and inform them about the developmental activities implemented by the BJP Government and also the failure of the Congress Governments in the State and at the Centre. They should try to improve the party's image in order to win the municipal elections. The BJP State vice-president, N.P. Venkateswara Chowdary, spoke.
