BANGALORE, JAN. 11. Mary Immaculate girls and St. Joseph Indian HS boys claimed the Rotary Club of Indiranagar-conducted inter-school basketball titles. At the Sree Kanteerava outdoor courts here this evening, Mary Immaculate downed Nirmala Rani HS 31-21, thanks to `most valuable player' Meenakshi's fine all-round game. Tejaswini of Nirmala Rani, the most promising player, toiled hard but found little support from her team-mates. The boys' final too was one-sided after the SJIHS boys took the lead in the first half. Leading 24-12 at the breather, SJIHS ended up with a 40-24 margin. Preetam D'Souza, with 12 points, was the highest scorer. Minhal Pereira of SJIHS was adjudged `most valuable player' while Ravi Kumar of Indiranagar HS was voted the `most promising player.'
Boys: Final: St. Joseph Indian HS 40 (Preetam D'Souza 12) bt Indiranagar HS 24; Semifinals: SJIHS bt Christ 50-8; Indiranagar bt National Public School (Rajaji Nagar) 31-22.
Girls: Final: Mary Immaculate 31 bt Nirmala Rani HS 21 (Tejaswini 16); Semifinals: Mary Immaculate bt Cluny Convent 19-13; Nirmala Rani bt Vidyanikethan HS (Hebbal) 34-9. Our Sports Reporter
