BANGALORE, JAN. 11. The Karnataka Pradesh Kurubara Sangha has threatened to intensify its agitation against the demolition of the "Kanaka Gopura" at the Sri Krishna Temple/Mutt in Udupi if Sri Vishvesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt continues to issue what it terms irresponsible public statements on the issue and also against the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah.
Condemned
Addressing presspersons here today, the sangha general secretary, K. Doddanna, and the former Bangalore Mayor and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary M. Ramachandrappa condemned the swamiji's critical comments against Mr. Siddaramaiah and other Kuruba leaders stating that they were unaware of the Supreme Court judgment on the administration of the temple. In a public meeting here, Mr. Siddaramaiah had said that the swamijis of the Ashta Mutts were not above the law and they had to abide by the Supreme Court verdict on the administration of the temple/mutt. The sangha has opposed the visit of the South India convener of the Bajrang Dal, Pramod Mutalik, to Udupi. The Bajrang Dal and Ashta Mutts are symbols of social exploitation and injustice, he said. The sangha has also condemned the State BJP President, Jagadish Shettar's remark that Mr. Siddaramaiah is using the gopura issue to gain political mileage and the support of the backward castes. Mr. Doddanna welcomed the statement of the Revenue Minister, M.P. Prakash, that the temple comes under the Department of Religious and Charitable Endowments.
