VISAKHAPATNAM, JAN. 11. The offerings made by the devotees of Sri Kanakamahalakshmi during the Maargasira Maasostavam which concluded on Monday, was Rs.14.51 lakhs from the hundies alone. The cash offerings dropped into the hundies of the temple in old town were counted on Tuesday. The total amount was Rs.1,51,299.25 while the gold ornaments weighing 296.5 grams and silver ornaments weighing 1.276 kg. were also offered. The Deputy Commissioner and Executive Officer of the Sri Kanakamahalakshmi Ammavari Devasthanam, B.A.S. Varma, said that more number of devotees visited the temple this year during the 28-day festival. Annadaanam was arranged for 30,000 persons, which was three times more than the figure in the previous year's festival. He claimed that by withdrawing the VIP passes during the second half of the festival, the queues for the devotees moved quicker and more number of ordinary devotees could have a darshan of the goddess. This had also helped increase the revenue through the auction of sarees offered to the goddess. The Lakshapushpaarchana and the Lakshakumkumaarchana introduced this year received good response from the devotees, Mr. Varma said. The EO announced that the election of the chairman of the newly formed board of trustees would be held on Wednesday morning, followed by the meeting of the new board.
