Special AIR programmes for `Pongal'

TIRUCHI, JAN. 11 . The Tiruchi station of the All India Radio will broadcast special programmes for the `Pongal' festival.

An official release issued here on Monday said that on January 12, the `Poovayar Poonga' at 1-05 p.m. would feature a special programme on `Tamizhar Tirunal'.

Srimad Mouna Kumaraswamy Thambiran Swamy from Dharmapuram Adheenam would explain the significance of the festival and offer benedictory address for three days from January 13 at 5-55 a.m. in the `Aravurai' programme.

On January 14, a special `Nattupura Nadhangal' would be on air at 8-30 a.m. when K. P. Singaravelu and P. Arjunan would present `lavani' and the `Kavi Arangam' on `Iyarkaiyai poatruvom' would be broadcast at 11 a.m. Kadavur Manimaran would preside over the programme. Both programmes would be relayed by all stations of the AIR.

Students of Sithan Vaazhur Panchayat Middle School in Tiruvarur district would present a group discussion on `Ulagorkku unavu tharum uzhavar tirunal' at 3 p.m.

A feature programme on livestock care, `Kaakum kadavul', authored by Saravanan, would be on air at 7-30 p.m. It would be relayed by all stations of the AIR. The `Ilaya Bharatham' would feature a `kaviarangam' on `Mangalam pongidum Pongal tirunal' at 8 p.m.

The release also said Velukudi Krishnan would deliver a discourse on `Vayuputhiran' at 9-30 p.m. on January 10, on account of Sri Hanuman Jayanthi.

FM programme

In the FM channel, experts from different fields and erudites would deliver a lecture on `Indraiya Thagaval' at 8 a.m. daily from January 14.

It would also broadcast `Appadi podu, podu', an interview with the film director, Dharani, at 10 a.m. on January 14, the release added.
