NALGONDA, JAN. 11. The Telugu Desam politburo member and former Minister, Devender Goud, dared the Chief Minister, Y.S.Rajasekehara Reddy, to seek a fresh mandate on the free power issue. ``You have assumed power on the promise of supplying free power to the people. Since you are all set to go back from the promise, let us to go to the people,'' he said while addressing a public meeting at the end of the padayatra undertaken by the party vice-president, Gutta Sukhender Reddy, from Narketpally to Nalgonda.
Saplings planted
Earlier, the TDP leaders led by the party general secretary, Kadiam Srihari, and treasurer, Uma Madhava Reddy, planted saplings at a foundation stone laid by the Chief Minister, Y.S.Rajasekhar Reddy, for the construction of the Dharmareddy canal at Narketpally in August. Accompanied by hundreds of party activists, Mr.Sukhender Reddy covered 20 kilometres during the padayatra. Lambasting the Government for "miserably failing to deliver goods,'' Mr.Goud alleged that the Congress leaders were siphoning off public money. He also made a dig at the land distribution programme to be taken up on January 26 by the State Government and said: "They are not going to distribute land to the poor. But, they are going to distribute pattas for the owners.'' Dubbing the Congress leaders as "anti-developmental forces,'' Mr.Srihari said that the Government was helping the party leaders, contractors and officials make money out of irrigation projects. He said that the Congress had come to power by cashing in on the regional sentiments. Both the leaders did not spare the TRS. Referring to a sign board, in which the local MLA, K.Venkat Reddy, was seen with fluorosis victims, near the meeting venue, Mr.Srihari sought to know as to why the MLA was keeping mum over the Pulichintala project. "The same leader obstructed the Pulichintala works during the TDP regime. Now he is supporting it,'' he maintained.
