Suicide situation not too alarming, says Minister

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUPATI, JAN. 11. The Minister for Agriculture, N. Raghuveera Reddy, has said that the situation of farmers resorting to suicide "is not too alarming'', though the increasing number is definitely a matter of concern and that the Government is seized of it.

At a media conference here on Tuesday, he sought to compare the situation with that during the previous regime. Blaming the Telugu Desam Party Government of not acknowledging such deaths, he said that the State's response was so lax that none took the deaths seriously.

He indicated that the situation was the same earlier, but it was getting increased media focus only now. "We see more such reports because the media carries such news items in its main pages," he said.
