NEW DELHI, JAN. 11. The Congress today took a guarded stand on the arrest of junior Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi, stating that while the law should take its course, there should be no interruption in performing pooja. The chairperson of the party's media department, Girija Vyas, said all precautions should be taken keeping in mind the sensitivities of devotees. She said that the party did not want to interfere in the affair and that the law should take its own course. She said the religious sentiments of people were to be kept in mind while dealing with the sensitive matter and stressed that the pooja should be performed regularly and on time. Asked whether the arrest of the junior Acharya was in defiance of the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh's letter to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, Ms. Vyas said law and order was a State subject. She suggested that an alternate arrangement could be made to perform pooja in the absence of the senior Acharya, Jayendra Saraswathi and his junior who was arrested yesterday.
