NAGAPATTINAM, JAN. 11 . Strict procedures will be followed for adoption of tsunami-orphaned children in Nagapattinam district, the Collector, J. Radhakrishnan, said today. Talking to The Hindu he said representations were being received from various quarters for adopting the orphaned children and pointed out that certain requirements had to be complied with by the applicants. Mr. Radhakrishnan said the applicants must be in the age group of 25 to 45 and there must be a difference of 21 years between the age of child and the parents. There must be community acceptance, besides the willingness of the children. The Collector said that willing parents could contact the office of the District Social Welfare Officer, Nagapattinam ( Phone: 04365 - 253045) for further details. The detailed procedure for adoption was exhibited on the notice board of the Collector's office and District Social Welfare Office, Nagapattinam. Orphaned children of or above the age of 14 could get themselves admitted into the service homes set up in Nagapattinam by contacting the District Social Welfare Officer, he said.
