KOLKATA, JAN. 11. There was no play on the opening day of the East Zone Ranji one-day tournament owing to overnight rain and a smart shower on Tuesday morning leaving the two venues Eden Gardens and Jadavpur University Salt Lake Campus unfit for play. The matches were called off by noon and four teams Bengal, Jharkhand, Assam and Tripura were awarded two points each. Splitting of points would certainly have benefited Jharkhand against Bengal and Tripura against Assam. The fifth side, Orissa, would get into action on Thursday with a match against Jharkhand while the host would play Tripura after a day of rest on Wednesday. Our Special Correspondent
