Anuja wins third title in a row

By G. Viswanath

MUMBAI, JAN. 11. Anuja Thakur won her third National women's billiards title in a row here at the Goregaon Sports Club on Tuesday. The final turned out to be a tame affair and particularly disappointing for the challenger, Karnataka's Uma Devi.

The 22-year old Maharashtra girl was in total control and dominated the final that lasted for an hour.

Though down by a few points in the opening game of the 50 up format best-of-three game title match, she settled down quickly to run up an unfinished break of 40 to take the initiative. Anuja won the second game comfortably.

Uma Devi had an outside chance to pull one back, but ran out of position at 45-all after which Anuja pocketed the game and match. "I am obviously delighted to win the title for the third time in a row. I won the title at Jammu, Gwalior and now at home,'' said Anuja.
