Loan mela conducted for SHGs

NIZAMABAD, JAN 11. The Minister for Information and Public Relations, Md Ali Shabbir, distributed financial assistance to the tune of Rs 61.40 lakhs to about 824 women SHGs at a loan mela jointly organised by the Velugu and the State Bank of Hyderabad at Reddypet village of Machareddy mandal on Tuesday.

The Minister said the administration had set a target of distributing Rs 1 crore of financial assistance to women SHGs in each mandal in the district. He promised to distribute financial assistance to all SHGs which had completed one and a half years. He called upon women to utilise bank loans for their economic empowerment.

With regard to the Indira Prabha scheme which would be launched on January 26, he said about 3,700 acres of land would be distributed in Nizamabad district including 1,116 acres of land in the Kamareddy division. He said the lands would be distributed in the name of women only.

`Fistful of rice'

The Minister was all praise for women SHG members of six villages of Machareddy mandal inclding Ratnagiripalli, Reddypet, Faridpet and other villages who distributed food to aged persons. To avoid starvation deaths of aged persons due to acute drought conditions, the women launched a programme of `fistful of rice' in their village. They have been collecting fistful of rice everyday and distributing it to the midday meal society for cooking and distribution among elderly persons. The Minister called upon other villages to adopt the novel scheme and help aged persons.

The NABARD AGM, Satyam, said they were distributing financial assistance to farmers by forming Rythu Mitra groups. So far they had distributed Rs 4 crores of loans to about 550 groups. The Velugu project director, China Tathaiah, the SBH AGM, Surya Narayana, the ZPTC member, Narsimhulu, the MPP, Narsing Rao, and the sarpanch, Anjamma, were present.
