Bangalore
By Our Staff Reporter
BANGALORE, JAN. 11. In the next few months, people in Bangalore can get information about the level of air or water pollution, or about any epidemic outbreak in the city through a health index that is being developed. The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), along with government organisations, is developing the health index that will give you these details and track the changes in the quality of life in the city. "The system will be up and running in a few months. Everyone can find out how clean and liveable this city is," Bob Hoekstra, Chief Executive Officer of Philips Software Centre, said at a conference on "Building Bangalore as a healthy city," organised by the CII.
Encouragement
The health index will encourage citizens to keep the city clean and the Government to initiate proactive measures to ensure it, he said. Easily accessible health information is important to tourists and people looking to invest in the city, he said. "If the World Health Organisation puts out a travel advisory against a country, the financial losses are really high. Through this system we can detect early warnings and prevent trouble," he added.
