THRISSUR, JAN. 11. A human chain was formed today in the Cherpu Assembly segment to mobilise participation in the rehabilitation of those affected by the recent tsunami. The Speaker, Therambil Ramakrishnan, inaugurated the human chain, which was formed along the 30-km distance from Cherpu to Triprayar. He also read out the pledge declaring solidarity with the tsunami victims. People from various walks of life including political and cultural activists, religious leaders, artists and officials joined the chain, which was organised between 10 and 10.30 a.m. They could also mobilise over Rs. 5 lakhs for the relief fund for the victims by holding corner meetings at various points till evening. K.P. Rajendran, MLA, C.K. Chandrappan, MP, the district panchayat president, N.K. Subramanian, Swamy Sakrananda, the Kerala Sahithya Akademi Secretary, P.V. Krishnan Nair, film personalities Anil Babu and Priyanandanan, artist Jayaraj Warrier, music director Vidyadharan Master and the writer Asokan Cheruvil were among those who participated.
