Police, naxals exchange fire

By Our Special Correspondent

ONGOLE, JAN. 11. The police exchanged fire with CPI (Maoist) workers for 15 minutes in Ardhaveedu mandal at 5.30 p.m. today. No casualties were reported.

After naxalites fled the scene, the police recovered 10 kitbags and three claymore mines from the place.

When the police were going on a routine visit they found a group of 30 to 35 naxalites taking up positions on a hill between Vengalapaya and Ollupalli villages, 170 km from Markapur.

The naxalites opened fire and the police retaliated. It is suspected that the naxalites belonged to the Tiger Project Dalam, which is operating in the area.
