Ragging charge against four students

The Osmania University police registered a criminal case against four students pursuing a diploma course in University Engineering College on the charge of ragging another student of the same college. "Though the complainant named four -- Raju, Satish, Pavan and Srinath -- we are yet to ascertain facts since none is available on the campus due to Sankranti vacations," the Osmania University Inspector, V.N.V. Satyanarayana, said.

Girl dies in mishap

A four-year-old girl, Payal Kaur, who was crossing the road along with her mother and grandfather at Uppal, was killed on Tuesday after a car hit her. The driver of the car abandoned the vehicle and fled.

Prisoner escapes

A convict, U. Anji Reddy (39), escaped from the Moulali Open Jail on Tuesday afternoon. He was shifted from the Cherlapally Central Jail to the Moulali jail six days ago, the Kushaiguda police said.

A native of Khanapur village in Nalgonda district, Anji Reddy was sentenced to seven years imprisonment in a criminal case.

Officials found that Anji Reddy managed to hoodwink the guards while working at a borewell inside the jail. A hunt was launched to nab him.

Two found murdered

An unidentified person aged 25 was found murdered in roadside bushes near St. Martin Engineering College in Dundigal police station limits on Tuesday.

A thirty-five-year-old man was found murdered at an isolated place in Mega Hills Colony of Guttalabegumpet village in the jurisdiction of Madhapur police station on Tuesday.

Attempts suicide

A 21-year-old woman, Neha Nausheen, who was reportedly depressed after a youngster rejected her love, allegedly attempted suicide by walking into the Hussainsagar waters on Monday. Alerted by some passers-by, the Lake Police rescued the woman.

Cash stolen

A retired Executive Engineer, K. Rama Rao (70), lost Rs. 75,000 and two gold bangles when two motorcycle-borne youngsters snatched a handbag from him while he was walking on the road near Gaddiannaram crossroads.

Financier held

A financier, Raghunand, of Reinbazar, was arrested by the South Zone police on the charge of illegally collecting high rate of interest from a debtor, Abdul Hussain Khan. Raghunand allegedly threatened to kill Mr. Khan as the latter failed to repay him the Rs. 1,500 loan he had taken.
