BANGALORE, JAN. 11. Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) office on Sampige Road in Malleswaram protesting against the collection of parking fee on roads which, according to them, are not included in the "Pay and Park" scheme. The Uttarahalli MLA, R. Ashok, who led the protest, threatened to intensify the agitation if the civic body does not stop collecting the fee on roads that have not been brought under the scheme. The protestors said neither the zonal deputy commissioner nor any of the revenue officials was available in the office to receive their complaint, and "this indicates that the authorities do not have an explanation for irregularities in the scheme." "Though we had announced the protest, the officials did not bother to be present at their office to receive the complaint. We condemn this attitude," the protestors, who marched from the Malleswaram grounds to the Sampige Road office, said. The BJP Bangalore city unit President, Ashwathnarayana; the General Secretary, Gangabhyraiah; the party unit spokesperson, S. Prakash; the BJP leader in the BMP Council, B.N. Mangala; and corporators Venkatesh Murthy, Suryakanth Rao, and Someshekar were among those who participated in the protest.
