Family of four robbed on Mysore Road

BANGALORE, JAN. 11. A family of four was robbed of two mobile phones, Rs. 12,000 in cash and six suitcases in Mathikere on Mysore Road in Channapatna police station limits on Monday night.

Satish, of Koramangala SBI Colony, was returning from a trip to Ooty with his family around 9.30 p.m. when he stopped the car in which they were travelling following a puncture. He and his family members were robbed when he was changing the tyre.

Another robbery was reported from Hebbal police station limits, where a call centre employee, Vivek Kumar Gupta, was waylaid and robbed of Rs. 900 in cash and a wristwatch on 1st Cross, Anandnagar, on Monday.

According to the police, Gupta, of L.B. Shastrinagar, was returning home from his office on Bellary Road.

Copper seized

The Rajagopalanagar police have arrested seven persons on the charge of stealing copper coils from a factory in Peenya, and recovered 150 kg of copper pieces and other goods, valued at about Rs. 70,000 in all.

The police gave the names of the accused as Mahboob Pasha (20) of Peenya 2nd Stage, Hemanthkumar (24) of Tigalarapalya, Vanaraja (17), Ganga (17), Prasad (16) of Hanumantharayanapalya, Sharavana (20) of Sanjayangar and Santhosh (18). They have been remanded to judicial custody.

Jewellery recovered

The Banashankari police have arrested Shivalinga (42) of Channapatna taluk and recovered gold jewellery and other valuables, worth about Rs. 4 lakhs in all, which were allegedly stolen from the Banashankari, Mahalakshi Layout and Basaveswaranagar police station limits.

Man dies in accident

A man, who was run over by a car on Lalbagh Road in Adugodi traffic police limits at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday, was declared dead at the Victoria Hospital. His identity could not be established.

The body is in the hospital mortuary, the police said.

Cars recovered

The Seshadripuram police have arrested P.K. Abdu (37), P.M. Abdul Sattar (40), and T.S. Sunil (27), all from Kerala, on charges of stealing cars and fabricating the registration certificates.

The police have recovered two cars, a computer, and a printer, worth about Rs. 8 lakhs in all.

Sentenced

A man found guilty of killing his wife by setting her on fire was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Fourth 4th Sessions Judge, M. Ramesh Rao, on Monday. The court was told that on October 27, 2000, Obalesh doused his wife Lakshmi Narasamma in kerosene and set her on fire. She died two days later at the Victoria Hospital.

The 11th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Basavaraj S. Chagareddy, on Monday sentenced Khader Khan (32), a hotel owner, to simple imprisonment for seven years for assaulting his employee, Irfan (12), with an iron rod, on July 4, 1996. Irfan had reportedly demanded wages. The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 3,000 on Khan.

Gambling charge

The City Crime Branch police on Monday arrested 11 persons who were allegedly gambling at a club in Peenya. The names of the accused were given as Suresh (39), Prasad Rao (22), Rangaswamy (35), Elumalai (24), Shivajirao (50), Ramesh (27), Muniraju (27), Sridhar (35), Sandesh (21), Harish (23) and Selvam (25). The police also seized Rs. 21,070 in cash.
