NEW DELHI, JAN. 11. An MBA has been arrested by the East Delhi police for allegedly being involved in the robbery in which more than Rs. 12 lakhs were looted from two persons at Kalyanpuri in East Delhi on January 8. The car allegedly used in the crime and over Rs. 1 lakh in cash have been recovered from him. Six other accused are still absconding. On January 8, two managers of the Noida-based Harpreet Colour Vision Private Limited, Devender Singh and Matthew C. George, were going in a Maruti car to a bank when three persons travelling in a Maruti car and a motorcycle intercepted them in Kalyanpuri and robbed them of the cash around 1-30 p.m. The victims had managed to note down the registration number (DDQ-0175) of the car. Investigations by two teams led by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sushil Kumar Bedi, revealed that the car was not with the registered owner as per the records of the Transport Authority. However, following subsequent investigations, the police traced the present user of the car to be one Arun Yaduvanshi of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. Acting on a tip-off about Arun's movement, a trap was laid on Noida-Kondli Road around 9 p.m. on Monday. He was apprehended and his Maruti car, bearing the same registration number, seized. Initially, Arun tried to mislead the police by claiming that he was a professional employed in a multinational firm. He told them that his office was in Gurgaon and that he was drawing a salary of Rs. 50,000 a month. Arun also took the alibi that he was with a doctor in Hauz Khas and had also visited All India Institute of Medical Sciences around the time the incident was reported. The police crosschecked with the doctor. But his statement did not match with Arun's. The police then took Arun to the company in Gurgaon of which he claimed to be an employee. But his claim proved to be false there too. He was then interrogated at length after which he allegedly confessed to having been involved in the crime. At his instance, Rs. 1.1 lakh in cash was also recovered. Arun, son of a former professor at Roorkee University, told the police that his gang -- led by his cousin, Sushil, who is presently lodged in Aligarh jail -- had meticulously planned the robbery. He also revealed the name of his six associates who were involved in the incident. The accused had earlier completed his graduation in science from Aligarh University in 1990. He then completed his MBA from the Indira Gandhi National Open University. In 1994, he came to Delhi and worked as recovery agent with the Citibank. After some time, he left his job and came in contact with Sushil and joined his gang. Sushil has been involved in nine cases of auto-lifting. Efforts are now on to trace the absconding accused.
