Murder of BJP activist: DGP to await details

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, JAN. 12. The Director-General of Police, Swaranjit Sen, has said that he will not like to instantly blame anybody for the killing of a BJP activist in Guntur district and said he will wait until all details of the incident are available.

Reacting to the incident, Mr. Sen said he would like to tread a cautious path in the matter in view of the talks being carried out by the State Government with the Maoists and Janashakti.

He said he was still not very sure whether the killing was the handiwork of Maoists although the assailants identified themselves as naxalites. "Mere claims are not sufficient. We do not want to jump to conclusion on that basis".

Mr. Sen based his observations on the communication he had with the district Superintendent of Police in the morning. He did not follow up the developments later due to his pre-occupation.

The DGP described the incident as `unfortunate' and regretted that `some people' should have resorted to it.
