WARANGAL, JAN.12. Six naxalites, including two minors and a senior leader, surrendered before the Warangal Range DIG, B.L.Meena, and the SP, M. S. Ravindra, here on Wednesday. The naxals who joined the mainstream included Guguloth Venkanna alias Sasidhar (23), the `C' section commander of the Maoist's sixth military platoon, Maragoni Rajababu (21), Sarangapani (15) and Naresh (16), members of the Tupakulagudam local guerrilla squad, Kadaari Odelu alias Gaddar (38) of Janashakti (Madhu dalam) and Routu Srinivas (19) of Praja Pratighatana (Subhash dalam). Having joined the People's War nine years ago, Venkanna of Mamididevulapalli of Mulug mandal was involved in the attacks on three police stations in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa. Another Maoist, Rajababu of Buttaigudem in Yeturinagaram mandal, participated in the gruesome bus blast that killed 14 passengers at Chintagudem on November 18, 2002. Rajababu went underground five years ago and was made deputy commander of the Medaram LGS at a later stage. Attracted by the revolutionary songs, Sarangapani and his friend Naresh, of Bayyakkapet village in Tadwai mandal joined Maoists on December 1 to become LGS members. "Moved by the bemoaning pictures of our parents in newspapers, we have decided to quickly come back to our village to join our families,'' they said. It may be recalled that their parents were present at a counselling session attended by police officers led by the SP at Mulug recently.
Naxals warned
Speaking to reporters after producing the six persons at a press conference, the DIG deplored that the Maoists were recruiting minors in their dalams. "The rights of the children should not be crushed with mindless recruitment and people of all hues, democratic forces and human right groups should condemn this,'' he said. He said the surrendered naxals would be rehabilitated soon. The SP warned naxalites of stringent action if they continued the extortion spree. "You (naxals) may treat this statement as an appeal or a warning, but we are not going to spare such collections,'' he said. According to Mr.Ravindra, naxalites had been collecting Rs.5,000 from ryots having tractors, Rs 2,000 from ordinary farmers and Rs.500 from petty businessmen. The OSD, Kalidas V.R.Lella, was also present at the press meet.
