Abhishek Dayal, Information Officer, Press Information Bureau, Government of India, New Delhi, writes: With regard to the news item "Centre may reduce age limit for Civil Services" ( The Hindu , Jan. 9), I would like to bring to your notice the fact that Secretary, Personnel, Shri A.N. Tiwari in his lecture on Civil Service reforms had referred to the fact that the Central Government is considering the Hota Committee report for broad spectrum changes in the Civil Service structure. As a part of the recommendations of the Hota Committee, Shri Tiwari referred to the recommendation that the recruitment age for Civil Services may be reduced from 30 years to 26 years. As is evident, the speech cannot be interpreted to mean that the Government has already taken a decision in this regard. Shri Tiwari wishes to make it clear that no such decision has been taken so far.
