ANANTAPUR, JAN. 12. Tense moments were witnessed at the Pothukunta police station and on the court premises in Dharmavaram town on Wednesday over the arrest of a Congress activist belonging to Kamireddipalli village on the charge of possessing narcotics. The police also arrested his rival, a TDP activist, on the same charge. The Congress activist, Adinarayana Reddy, is a supporter of a key faction leader, Sudhakar Reddy, of the same village. The Pothukunta police arrested Adinarayana Reddy and Dasari Narasimhulu for possessing 100 and 150 grams of ganja, respectively, on Tuesday. They were brought to the court with police escort on Wednesday. As their production in the court seeking judicial remand was delayed a large number of supporters of Adinarayana Reddy from his village gathered at the court complex. The police stated that the villagers had provoked Adinarayana Reddy against them and the latter had escaped the escort and went to Pothukunta police station and created a scene there.
SI abused
Adinarayana Reddy had used filthy language against the Sub-Inspector, Venkateswarlu, and had broken a glass door in the police station. He was arrested again and was taken to court. Sending him and his rival to judicial remand for 15 days the judge was stated to have directed the police to admit Adinarayana Reddy in the General Hospital at Anantapur for the treatment of injuries suffered while breaking the glass door. Later, Adinarayana Reddy told reporters that the police had foisted cases against him and alleged that they had also attacked him when he went to the police station to question his implication. The town police also registered a case against him later for escaping police escort. Adinarayana Reddy's supporters staged a dharna in front of the Pothukunta police station demanding withdrawal of cases foisted against the former.
