Circular train likely for southern tourist places
By Our Staff Reporter
TIRUPATI,
JAN. 12.
The Minister of State for Railways, R.Velu, on Tuesday announced that the Ministry was thinking of bringing out a circular train to cover major tourist places in the four southern states.
Addressing a public meeting here on Wednesday after inaugurating new facilities, the Minister said that the plan was to link major places of tourist interest, spiritual centres, pilgrim destinations and places of archaeological importance down the Vindhyas to showcase the cultural heritage of the South to the rest of the country.
It all began with the local representatives making an appeal to the Minister to run a metro rail connecting the scores of temples scattered around Tirupati to improve the tourist inflow, when the Minister magnified the idea and announced his macro plan to cover the four states. Among the places likely to be covered under the network are Tirupati, Srikalahasti, Srisailam, Rameswaram, Kanyakumari, Srirangam, Chidambaram, Madurai, Guruvayur etc. "Cultural integration will help foster national integration,'' Mr.Velu said.
