Newborn's body found floating

The body of a newborn baby girl was found floating on the water of Hussainsagar on Tuesday by a patrolling party of the Ramgopalpet police. A case under Section 318 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of body) was booked by the police.

Two couples arrested

The Abids police on Wednesday arrested two couples in connection with the robbery in the house of a retired lecturer, Arifa Fareed, at Chirag Ali Lane committed on December 22. While one of the accused, Nizamuddin Khan surrendered in the court, Sharfuddin Khan was still at large, a press release said. According to the Abids police, the arrested -- Jalaluddin Khan, his wife, Rubina Fatima, Khan's father, Badruddin Khan, and his mother, Shaheen Begum -- along with the other accused had hatched the plan to burgle the lecturer's house.

Stolen bikes recovered

The Narayanaguda police on Wednesday arrested four persons and recovered seven stolen motorcycles. The arrested -- B. Chandra Shekhar, V. Srinivas, Shiva Kumar and K. Ravi -- confessed to the police that they had lifted vehicles from different areas in the city.

`Nakabandi' organised

A total of 9,040 vehicles were checked and 160 cases booked during a `Nakabandi' organised by the police on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, a press release said. An amount of Rs. 18,200 was collected towards fine.
