HYDERABAD, JAN. 12. Thieves made a vain bid to loot the Andhra Bank Turkayamjal branch in Vanasthalipuram, on the city fringes, after entering inside the premises by removing the window grills on Tuesday night. Marks inside the building suggested that the offenders made desperate attempts to break into the strong room.
Computer monitor stolen
They, however, managed to take away a computer monitor from the manager's cabin, the Vanasthalipuram police said. The bank did not have a security guard or watchman. The police suspect that five persons, who came to the grocery store adjacent to the bank on Tuesday evening, to be behind the attempt.
Recce of the area
The gang came in an autorickshaw, purchased a kg of rice from the shop and left. "We suspect they came to do a recce of the area on the pretext of buying rice," the police said. As the window grills were not firmly fixed, the culprits easily removed them. The windows opened into the manager's room. The offenders tried to break the concrete walls of the strong room. They also attempted to pull out the metal sheet around the room. The bank staff alerted the police this morning on learning about the loot bid.
