BANGALORE, JAN. 12. Fearing that his parents may scold him for not attending classes, a 10th standard student committed suicide by hanging himself in his house in Girinagar police station limits on Tuesday evening, the police said. The name of the boy was given as R. Bharath Kumar (16), a student in The JHS School in Mysore Bank Colony, off Seetha Circle. Kumar's father, Rangaswamy, is a land developer. At 4.15 p.m., when his parents had gone to attend court proceedings, Kumar reportedly hanged himself with a towel from the grill frame in front of his house at Dwarakanagar, off PES Institute of Technology, in 3rd Stage, Banashankari. Passersby and neighbours rushed him to a private hospital on Ring Road, where he was declared brought dead, the police said. According to the police, Kumar had not attended classes from January 3. He had fared badly in the tests conducted this academic year, they said. "He used to keep his schoolbag in the cellar of his house, go to play, and return home in the evening," an official attached to the Girinagar police station told The Hindu . Meanwhile, there are rumours that Kumar committed suicide as the physical education instructor at the school scolded him on Tuesday for poor performance in sports. However, the police denied this and said some residents of Mysore Bank Colony, who have a dispute with the school over land, had spread the rumours. Following Kumar's death, the school declared a holiday today. On a complaint by Kumar's father, the Girinagar police have registered a case of unnatural death.
