HYDERABAD, JAN. 13. The need for a concerted and voluntary action with Government support to bring relief to those with facial deformities was stressed at the fourth annual congress of the Indian Society of Cleft Lip, Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies - 2005 here. Over 400 delegates, including 70 international faculty members, are participating in deliberations on advances in maxillo-facial surgery, orthodontics, and speech therapy. The five-day event between January 12 and 16 is mainly hosted by the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS). Srinivas Gosla Reddy, director, G.S.R. Institute of Craniofacial and Facial Plastic Surgery, said 1,800 to 1,900 children were born each month with these deformities. Delegates watched four surgeries performed by Dr. Obwegeser and Dr. Maurice Mommaerts. At the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences too, a live workshop was organised by the Plastic Surgery Department, in the presence of director, D. Prasada Rao, Mukunda Reddy, Virendra Singhal from the US and Srikanth.
