KANCHEEPURAM, JAN. 13. A team of police officials and staff from the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Board examined the account records of Sri Kamakshi Amman temple, here today. Enquiries reveal that the team came to the temple around noon and sought the records for "scrutiny." The team left the temple office a few minutes before the temple was thrown open for devotees in the evening. The administrator and Kanchi Sankara Mutt representative for the temple, K.S. Chellappa, termed the "scrutiny" of records a routine audit by the HR and CE officials. He told reporters that the Board officials were engaged in the audit for the past seven days and were likely to continue the exercise in the coming week. It may be recalled that Mr. Chellappa was questioned by the special investigation team probing the Sankararaman murder case, on the use of gold, contributed by the devotees, for renovation and new projects, including the golden chariot project.
