HYDERABAD, JAN. 13. The TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has demanded an impartial inquiry into the police raid on the house of Satish Kumar Reddy, and his `illegal arrest' in Vempally village of Pulivendula constituency in Cuddapah district. Mr. Reddy was the party candidate against the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. In a letter to the Director General of Police on Thursday, he also demanded transfer of the Additional Superintendent of Police, Laxma Reddy, and the Circle-Inspector, Rajeswar Reddy, for `behaving in a high-handed' manner. He enclosed a report filed by a fact-finding team of the party. Addressing a press conference here, the team members -- B. Gopalakrishna Reddy, Nagam Janardhana Reddy, S. Venuogopala Chary and R. Seetharama Rao -- said it was a sheer over action by the police and the District Congress leader, N. Tulasi Reddy, and Shivaprakash Reddy, brother- in-law of Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, MP, who just wanted to impress the Chief Minister who was touring the district at the time of the incident.
Dig at police
They said the piece of land belonged to the Government and the poor raise petty shops there. On an earlier occasion when the Government wanted to dismantle the shops, they had gone to court and obtained stay. But on January 9, supporters of Dr. Tulasi Reddy and Mr. Shivaprakash Reddy, with the help of the police began demolishing the shops. The police instead of taking action against the two leaders, booked cases under non-bailable sections, against Mr. Satish Reddy, they alleged. They also reiterated the demand that the Chief Minister launch the land distribution, scheduled from January 26, from his estate in Pulivendula.
