HYDERABAD, JAN. 13. The bus and railway stations in the city have been witnessing a heavy rush over the last couple of days even as the authorities pressed into service extra buses and trains to cope up with the rush following the Pongal festival. At Imlibun bus station alone, over one lakh passengers boarded buses to their respective destinations. "Last night, there was a heavy rush. We are already running over 2,500 additional buses," said S. Nagaraju, Regional Manager of APSRTC, Ranga Reddy region.
Additional buses
However, passengers at Imlibun complained that the authorities had not made adequate arrangements. Mr. Nagaraju said the rush was less compared to Wednesday. On ordinary days, at least 50,000 people board buses at Imlibun. The Hyderabad City region also provided 200 buses to the Ranga Reddy region to cope up with the rush. The case was no different at Nampally, Secunderabad and Kachiguda railway stations. Several people made last-minute efforts to board trains and if it was not possible, they rushed to Imlibun bus station.
SCR specials
The South Central Railway officials said five extra ticket counters were opened at Secunderabad, three at Nampally and one at Kachiguda railway stations. SCR was also running about 30 specials besides providing extra coaches to the existing trains. "We are having special trains for all those destinations for which the waiting list is high. Keeping in view the festive season, we started running specials from December 19 itself which will continue up to January 16," informed the SCR Chief Public Relations Officer, P. Krishnaiah. He said special trains were being run to various places including Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Kottayam and Bangalore.
