BANGALORE, JAN. 15. The Karnataka High Court on Thursday ordered the issuing of notices in a contempt petition against the Doordarshan Kendra (DD) in Bangalore and Chandana channel on a petition by a producer of serials. The petitioner, M. Ramesh, said he had not been paid by DD for directing a serial "Kannu Therasida Hennu" which was telecast on October 23, 1999. He said the High Court had allowed his petition and directed DD to consider his representation. Even three months after he had represented the matter, no payment was made.
Rejected
Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh on Thursday dismissed a bail petition by Santosh Shetty, who is accused of having murdered a taluk panchayat president in Mangalore. According to the prosecution, Santosh Shetty and others chopped to death M.D. Jabber when he was alighting from his jeep on May 16, 2003. A trial court had denied Shetty bail. Shetty had appealed against the trial court order.
Dismissed
Justice R. Gururajan on Thursday dismissed a petition by Rifahul Muslimeen Education Trust and eight others from Mysore challenging the Government order of October 8, 2004 to implement the midday meal scheme for schoolchildren. The petitioners had urged the court to direct the authorities not to implement the order. They said they could not afford the additional costs for implementing the scheme. Justice Gururajan said welfare measures have to be constantly supervised and inspected in the larger interests of society. He said the petitioners could not avoid what is social responsibility.
Notice
A Division Bench comprising the Chief Justice, Nauvdip Kumar Sodhi, and Justice B. Padmaraj on Thursday ordered issue of notices to the State Government, the Animal Welfare Board of India and the Dargah Sharrif Hazrat Sajjad Shah of Humnabad, Bidar, on a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Prani Daya Sangha, Bangalore. The petitioners urged the court to direct the authorities to take action against killing of animals.
