15 Iraqi soldiers feared kidnapped

BAGHDAD, JAN. 15. Militants rocketed an Iraqi military bus west of the capital and 15 Iraqi soldiers were missing and feared kidnapped, as militant violence and intimidation escalated ahead of this month's crucial national election.

A senior American officer acknowledged on Friday that violence and threats by militants might keep some people in Baghdad away from the January 30 polls. The bus was driving to a U.S. military post when it was attacked near Baghdadi, 145 km west of the capital, said an Iraqi officer. He said the bus burst into flames but no bodies were found, raising fears the soldiers had been abducted.
