By Our Staff Reporter
KURNOOL, JAN. 15. The wild animal which was caught and killed by poachers near Velugodu in Kurnool district has been identified as panther. The Conservator of Forests, P.K. Jha, accompanied by other officials of the department, on Saturday visited Pangidi Vagu in the Gundla Brahmeswaram sanctuary and examined the carcass of the animal. Mr. Jha told The Hindu that the big cat, which was believed to be one-year-old, was caught in the noose laid by the poacher. After the animal died, the carcass was abandoned. The forest officials concluded that the animal was not skinned as dry skin was visible on the skull and legs. The skin and flesh in the abdomen region were damaged by termites. The animal was believed to have died one and half months ago. The forest officials registered a case and announced a reward of Rs. 2,500 was announced for people giving information leading to arrest of the accused.s
