Rs. 235-cr. project to contain tsunami, cyclone
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD,
JAN. 15.
The Union Government has offered a Rs. 235-crore tsunami mitigation project to Andhra Pradesh, which will also help the State meet any cyclone threat more effectively.
The scheme is quite relevant to the State as it has a 1,000-km-long coastline.
The project will be funded by the World Bank through the Centre as part of a national programme and implemented over a period of five years up to 2010. Six major components will be taken up under the project having a bearing on containing the impact of tsunami or cyclone. The Disaster Management Commissioner, Asutosh Mishra, told The Hindu here today that he had asked the department concerned to suggest other components, if any, which could be taken up under the project.
