Partly cloudy sky likely

NEW DELHI JAN. 15. A partly cloudy sky with mist or shallow fog will greet Delhiites on Sunday morning, with the minimum temperature likely to be around 7.0 degree Celsius.

The maximum temperature recorded at Safdarjung and Palam was 22.6, while the minimum was 9.5 degree Celsius and 7.0 degree Celsius respectively. While Safdarjung recorded a maximum and minimum humidity of 92 and 21 per cent, Palam recorded 92 and 39 per cent respectively.

Two held

NEW DELHI JAN. 15. Two persons have been arrested by the South-West Delhi police for allegedly committing a robbery after injuring an old woman at Vasant Kunj here on December 5.

According to the police, the two accused, identified as Vishnu Thapa and Shankar Bahadur, both Nepalese nationals, were arrested following a brief exchange of fire in Vasant Kunj on Thursday.

During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to have injured an 85-year-old woman, Kailash, who was sleeping in her Pocket-B house before decamping with cash and jewellery. Further investigations in the case were on.

Fire kills three

NEW DELHI JAN. 15. Three persons were charred to death in a fire that broke out in a jhuggi cluster at Karol Bagh in Central Delhi on Friday.

According to the police, the fire broke out in the jhuggis near Jhandewalan Extension around 3-30 p.m. At least 25 fire tenders had to be pressed into service and the fire could be doused only around 5 p.m. About 80 jhuggis were destroyed in the fire. Later, the firemen recovered three bodies which had been completely charred.

While the exact reason behind the fire was yet to be known, it was suspected that explosion of a cooking gas cylinder led to the three deaths.

A case has been registered at the Karol Bagh police station and further investigations were on.

Sex rackets

NEW DELHI JAN. 15 . Two alleged prostitution rackets, running in the garb of massage parlours, have been busted by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police. Four pimps, including a woman, and six call girls have been arrested.

A raid was conducted in a massage parlour being run at Garhi in Lajpat Nagar on Friday and one pimp, along with four call girls, were arrested. In another raid at Sector-8, Rohini, yesterday, two pimps, including a woman, and two call girls were arrested.

Cases under the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act have been registered in the two cases and further investigations are on.

Infant found abandoned

NEW DELHI JAN. 15. A baby girl was found abandoned outside Birla Mandir in New Delhi today. According to the police, the girl, barely a fortnight old, was spotted by a passerby on the stairs of the temple this evening. She has been admitted to Sucheta Kriplani Hospital where she has been kept under observation. The Mandir Marg police have registered a case and are looking into the matter.
