NEW DELHI, JAN. 15. A Delhi court today sentenced a dismissed constable of the Delhi police and another person to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment after holding them guilty of robbing a businessman of Rs. 10.5 lakhs in broad daylight at gunpoint at Kesavpuram in West Delhi in 2001. In his confession, the dismissed constable, Rajesh Rathi, had stated that he had taken to robbery following his termination from the service. The Additional Sessions Judge, Rajiv Mehra, also imposed a fine of Rs. 25,000 each on the convicts, Rajesh Rathi and Ramesh Bhardwaj. However, the court acquitted the third accused in the case, Rakesh, observing that no case was made out against him. Holding the two guilty of holding up the car of the businessman, Atul Kumar Garg, and robbing him of Rs. 10.5 lakh at gun point, the Judge said that the prosecution had been able to prove the case against the two beyond all reasonable doubts. The police had been able to recover only Rs. 60,000 of the total robbed money from Bhardwaj. In his interrogation, the constable had told that he had bought a motorcycle with the robbed money.
