Natesan following RSS agenda: Pinarayi

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM. Jan. 15. In calling for a pan Hindu unity in the State, the SNDP Yogam general secretary, Vellappally Natesan, is following the agenda of the RSS, the CPI(M) State secretary, Pinarayi Vijayan, has said.

He was inaugurating a public rally in connection with the conclusion of the party's district conference here today.

Nobody need have any objection regarding the coming together of the NSS and the SNDP Yogam as organisations. But the reality was that the SNDP Yogam leadership was trapped in the RSS agenda, which was nothing but the hegemony of the upper castes.

The real problem was that this slogan of pan Hindu unity would only create communal tension in the State and generate suspicion, he said.

It was unfortunate that the United Democratic Front (UDF) was seeking to gain political mileage out of this move for unity by the NSS and the SNDP. Mr. Natesan had made the unity call at a function in which the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, and the former Chief Minister A.K. Antony were present. "Is not the UDF playing cheap politics?" Mr. Vijayan asked.

Media criticised

The CPI(M) State secretary accused a section of the media of spreading false news about the party and its ongoing district conferences.

The media had been against the CPI(M) on almost all occasions. Communal organisations too had been against the party. Some people were now wondering as to how to stop the growth of the party. They were also those wrote about the "VS-Pinarayi rift", he said.

"We have faced ideological and physical assaults. Despite what the media writes about us, despite all the attacks, we will emerge stronger. The Malappuram conference will prove this. No one should think that they can write this party away into oblivion," Mr. Vijayan said.

The party's energies were now focussed on bringing into its fold a large number of people who ought to have been in the party, but were not. Such people still viewed the party with suspicion.

However, the ground reality today was that even staunch supporters of the Congress were with the CPI(M), he said.

During the recent elections to Parliament, the Congress did not get even a single seat. And the Indian Union Muslim League was not able to win even the Manjeri seat, Mr. Vijayan said.

The party district secretary, M. Vijayakumar, the MP Varkala Radhakrishnan, and the Mayor were among those who participated in the inaugural function. The public function was preceded by a rally.
