MYSORE, JAN.16. The Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, H.K. Patil, said here today that the State Government would soon enact a new law to check cyber crime. Speaking at an interaction meeting organised by the Kannada Action Committee, Mr. Patil said the Government is aware of the growing need to enact laws to deal with the emerging crime in the cyber world and that the new law will be framed after a detailed study of the existing law. Efforts will be made to plug the loopholes in it and facilitate law enforcement authorities to tackle the menace, the Minister said. A special committee will be constituted this month to set the process into motion, he said. Mr. Patil dwelt at length on the need to implement Kannada in administration at all levels and promised to initiate action against officials who did not implement Kannada. "I will speak to the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, and press for additional powers to the Kannada Development Authority to initiate action against such erring officials and promote Kannada," he said.
Law textbooks
On the state of legal education, Mr. Patil said that there is a paucity of law textbooks in Kannada language and efforts will be made to ensure their availability. In this context, he said there is a dearth of books dealing with legal nuances of AIDS and though India was among the countries with a very large number of HIV positive patients, there is little legal information available for the health workers. This lacunae has to be set right, Mr. Patil added.
