Rs. 1.90 crores released for 15 road works in Kodagu

MADIKERI, JAN. 16. A grant of Rs. 1.90 crores has been released for Somwarpet taluk in Kodagu for 15 road works, according to the Congress spokesperson, T.P. Ramesh, here on Sunday.

The Somwarpet MLA, B.A. Jivijaya, who was instrumental in securing the sanction and release of funds from the Government, under the Chief Minister's Rural Roads Funds, had instructed the officials of the Public Works Department and others concerned to take up road works immediately, Mr. Ramesh has in a press release said.

The Madapur-Biligeri-Kiragandur Road, Somwarpet-Koothi Road, Kabbinasetuve-Kiragandur-Takeri Road, Somwarpet-Yalakanur-Kanive Road, Kodlipet-Arakalgud Road, Shanivarasante-Elasurpet-Kyate-Kodlipet Road, Shanivarasante-Banavara-Hebbale Road, Abburkatte-Doddamalte Road, Madikeri-Nellihudikeri-Chettalli-Siddapur Road are some of the roads to be taken up under the project.

Mr. Jivijaya had written to the Public Works Minister, H.D. Revanna, on November 26 last seeking Rs. 6 crores for construction of a new bridge across the Cauvery at Nellihudikeri.

The bridge was an important link between Virajpet and Somwarpet taluks.

Mr. Jivijaya had also requested Mr. Revanna to sanction Rs. 90 lakhs to take up construction of the Sakleshpur-Somwarpet Bridge at Igoor.

Mr. Revanna had written to the Director of the Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited who accorded sanction for both projects.

Mr. Ramesh said Mr. Jivijaya had also requested the Government to release Rs. 3 crores for the construction of the Hirisave-Chettalli-Kumbur-Biligeri-Bagganamane-Shantalli-Kundalli-Changadahalli- Shani- varasante-Hipligate Road and Rs. 60 lakhs for the Konanur-Kutta (via Kushalnagar-Shirangala) Road. The Government was examining it.

Mr. Jivijaya had sought Rs. 1.16 crores NABARD funds under its Rural Infrastructure Development Funds (RIDF) for taking up 13 road works in the Somwarpet Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC). Mr. Jivijaya wrote a letter to the Director of the APMC on October 26 last seeking release of funds, Mr. Ramesh stated.

Mr. Jivijaya had sought Rs. 60.50 lakhs to develop the Malambi ST Colony in Somwarpet taluk requesting the Government to release Central funds for the purpose.

He had also proposed to develop 12 roads in the taluk, covering 173 km, seeking funds from the State Public Works Department, which was under the consideration of the Government, Mr. Ramesh said.
