TUMKUR, JAN. 16. H.G. Sannaguddaiah, veteran writer, said on Sunday that politicisation of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat can be turned into an advantage to serve the interests of Kannada literature. Speaking after inaugurating a Kannada Sahitya Sammelan organised by the Tumkur district unit of the parishat here, Prof. Sannaguddaiah said many people have become members of the parishat because of its politicisation. It is an indication of the parishat's growth. It will emerge stronger with more number of members. Prof. Sannaguddaiah said Kannada is no longer a mere language. Kannada symbolises the land of Karnataka, its water, its people and their culture. Political interference has become inevitable to ensure Kannada retain its primacy amidst the growing influence of Hindi and English. The sovereignty of the State can be saved and strengthened only by safeguarding the supreme status of Kannada. It is in this background that political leaders have, of late, been taking interest in the affairs of the parishat, he added. The sammelan was held on the Government Junior College Ground. Various programmes were held throughout the day. Nittoor Rampur Sadanand, President of the district unit of the parishat, hoisted the Kannada flag. Earlier, S. Vidyashankar, critic, presided over the sammelan. Badukina Shikshana, a book by Rizvan Pasha, was released.
