PALANI, JAN.16 . The Thai Poosam car festival of Sri Periyanayaki Amman temple here will be celebrated between January 19 and 28. Temple officials today said the festival would begin with the hoisting of flag in the Kodikatti mandapam between 10 and 11.30 a.m. on Wednesday. Lord Muthukumaraswamy would be taken out in a procession in the evening. Thirukalyanam of Lord Murugan with Sri Valli and Deivanai would be held at 6 p.m. on January 24. The car procession would start from Sri Periyanayaki Amman temple at 4.35 p.m. on January 25. It would pass through all four Rath streets. The festival would end with `theppa-ther' at 5.30 p.m. on the last day of the festival. The temple administration has arranged for discourses and cultural programmes on all the days in the Kudamuzhukku mandapam near Malaiadivaram. It has opened panchamritham sales depots on the south and north prakarams of the hill temple, at the winch station, on the West Giri Street, in the Mangammal mandap, at the Padhavinayagar temple and the central bus stand. The temple will open at 4 a.m. during the festival. Barricades have been put up in the hill temple to regulate crowd. The Palani municipality has been advised to keep the town clean. Hospitals have been advised to keep sufficient stocks of medicines. A mobile medical unit has also been pressed into service to attend to emergency cases. With the increase in the arrival of Iyyappa devotees, the flow of pilgrims into Palani has gone up.
