Temperature

TIRUCHI, JAN.16. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 30.8 degree Celsius and a minimum of 19.3 degree Celsius.

Anniversary celebrations

The importance of education for economic and social development was emphasised by speakers at the 60th anniversary celebrations of Girls' Higher Secondary School, Lalgudi, on January 12.

The memorial day of the school founder, Rao Sahib L.N. Paramasivam Pillai, was also observed. The School Governing Council Chairperson, V. Jeyapaul, presided. The Principal, Saroja Narayanan, spoke.

Meeting

Various consumer organisations, including the Consumers' Forum, and the Deccan Consumer Rights Protection Council, at a meeting held recently, requested the Labour Inspector, Solaimuthu, to form a committee comprising officials of the Labour Department and representatives of consumer organisations, to conduct frequent checks at fair price shops to prevent malpractices.

They also brought to the notice of the officials, the alleged malpractices of a section of the traders in Gandhi Market area, by using fake weights and measures.

Mettur level

The level at the Mettur reservoir stood at 67.50 feet today. The inflow was 262 cusecs, and the discharge 9,000 cusecs.
