Judgement on multilevel marketing hailed

By Our Staff Reporter

MADURAI, JAN. 16. The Federation of Consumer Organisations in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry (FEDCOT) hailed the recent judgement of the Madras High Court ruling the multilevel marketing scheme, by whatever name it is called, an illegal business practice.

Justice A.K. Rajan delivered the judgement on a petition filed by M/s. Apple FMCG Marketing (Pvt.) Limited seeking to declare its "network marketing system" as legal and not in contravention of the provisions of the Prize Chits and Monetary Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act.

In a release today, the Chairman and chief functionary of the federation, P. Duraisingam, said that the High Court, through its judgement, had protected several lakhs of gullible and innocent people from falling prey to the operators of the schemes.

The federation appreciated the direction issued to the Director General of Police and other law enforcing authorities to take timely action against such activities.
