SINGAPORE, JAN. 17. India and Singapore on Monday signed an accord for carrying out joint army exercise in India next month. Under the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Indian High Commissioner Alok Prasad and Chief of Army Desmond Kuek, the exercises would be held from February 11 to April 5 and would involve armour and artillery units from both armies. The armour exercise will be held at Babina field firing range, about 400 kms south east of New Delhi, while the artillery exercise will be conducted concurrently at Devlali frange about 200 km northeast of Mumbai, an Indian High Commission release here said. This exercise will provide the Singapore Army with a valuable opportunity to train alongside the Indian Army, and will enhance mutual understanding and inter-operability between the two armies. The upcoming exercise is also a reflection of the growing defence coopertion between the two countries, the mission said. Singapore had recently conducted its inaugural bilateral exercise with the Indian Air Force in October last year, while the Singapore Navy conducts regular exercises with the Indian Navy, it said.
