CHENNAI, JAN. 17. An illegal telephone exchange has been busted by the vigilance and telecom monitoring cell of the telecom department and the city police. The exchange, at Aminjikkarai, boasted of sophisticated equipment, which could bypass authorised and licensed international long distance operators. One person, reportedly from Vijayawada, has been arrested in this connection. The illegal exchange caused a loss of Rs. 86 lakhs to telecom operators, besides loss of tax revenue to the department.
