Partly cloudy day ahead
The maximum temperature recorded at Safdarjung and Palam was 20.4 degrees Celsius and 18.7 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 8.7 degrees Celsius and 9.7 degrees Celsius respectively. While Safdarjung recorded a maximum and minimum humidity of 89 per cent and 48 per cent, Palam recorded 87 per cent and 59 per cent respectively.
4-year-old assaulted
The child was lured by accused Shankar, a labourer who lived close to her hutment in Indira Camp area at JJ Colony in Srinivaspuri, the police said. The girl later reported the matter to her parents following which a complaint was lodged with the police. Shankar was arrested in the evening, the police added.
Fireman held for graft
According to the police, Surender Shoukeen, a resident of Dichaon Village, owned a tent house at Bakkarwala Village in West Delhi. On January 4, his tent house caught fire and a lot of property was damaged. He required an incident report from the Jwalaheri fire station in order to claim the insurance. He approached the leading fireman of the station, Rameshwar, for the purpose. However, Rameshwar demanded Rs. 5,000 to give him the report. He asked Surender to pay Rs. 2,500 as advance and the rest of the amount after the job was done. Surender complained to the ACB which laid a trap and arrested the accused while he was accepting the bribe on Sunday. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered and further investigations are on.
Man charred
to death
According to the police, the incident occurred in the house of 56-year-old Ashwini Kumar around 3-45 p.m. The police said it appeared that some inflammable material in the house caught fire when he was trying to light a "beedi". He could neither move after the fire began spreading nor could he call out for help. By the time, the neighbours noticed the flames and tried to rescue him, he was dead.
Suicide case
According to the police, Kashmiri Lal, a resident of LIG Flats in East of Loni and a teacher by profession, hanged himself with the help of a sheet after locking the door from inside in his house around 5 p.m. A suicide note was recovered from the spot in which the deceased had purportedly mentioned that nobody was responsible for his death and that he was depressed since a long time.
