Hirsi Ali returns from hiding

THE HAGUE (The Netherlands): The lawmaker, Ayaan Hirsi Ali (in the picture), who went into hiding in the United States after receiving threats on her life following the slaying of the filmmaker Theo van Gogh, returned to work at Parliament on Tuesday amid tight security. Security guards escorted Ms. Hirsi Ali through the building, an unusual sight in a country where Ministers felt safe enough to bicycle to work until recently. Ms. Hirsi Ali, who calls herself a lapsed Muslim, won the wrath of some Muslims after writing the script for Van Gogh's short television film ``Submission'' which cast a critical light on how women are treated under Islam. Despite the threats, Ms. Hirsi Ali has said she will not be intimidated and vowed to produce a sequel to the Van Gogh collaboration. Ms. Hirsi Ali (35), escaped a forced marriage in Somalia as a young girl and fled to the Netherlands. She campaigned against Muslims who reject Dutch values such as gender equality and gay rights.
