2 CISF men shot allegedly by colleague

By Our Diplomatic Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JAN. 18. Two Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) men deployed as guards were allegedly shot dead by a colleague in the Indian Embassy premises in Kathmandu early this morning. Another CISF man was wounded but is in stable condition.

``The facts, as far as we can ascertain at present, following a preliminary enquiry, are that last night an altercation occurred among a couple of security guards. One of the guards, in the early hours of the morning, shot at one of the other security guards, in the process killing two and wounding the third. A full investigation is underway to ascertain details," an External Affairs Ministry spokesman told presspersons.

The spokesman said the attacker had been taken into custody and would be brought to India to face proceedings.

The incident took place in the living quarters of the guards in the embassy premises.

Asked if it was normal for all the security staff to carry weapons, the spokesman said, "It all depends on embassy to embassy and the (local) conditions. But normally there are security guards who are stationed in the embassy and they are there for the purpose of protection of the embassy."
