NEW DELHI, JAN. 18. The former Union Minister, P.J. Kurien, who was recently elected member of the Rajya Sabha from Kerala, took his oath here today. Though this is his first stint in the Upper House of Parliament, Prof. Kurien has been a member of five Lok Sabhas. Among the portfolios he has held as Minister are Industry, Commerce, and Non-conventional Energy Sources. PTI adds: Prof. Kurien was administered the oath by the House chairman, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, in the presence of the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Jaswant Singh, and V. Narayanaswamy of the Congress. Soon after taking the oath, in Malayalam, he was congratulated by Shekhawat and other leaders present on the occasion and later had tea with the Chairman. Prof. Kurien fills up the vacancy in the House following the death of the sitting CPI leader, V.V. Raghavan, and his tenure is up to July 2006.
